Daybed Mattresses
Whether you choose a daybed because it’s practical and compact, or simply because you like the way it looks, you’ll want to be sure to pick a mattress that suits your needs. When choosing a matress, consider the daybed’s unique features and the type of mattress you generally prefer.
Choose a Mattress before Accessories
Choosing your mattress can be quick and easy because, regardless of the style, all daybeds use a twin size mattress, measuring 39 x 75. The difference in daybed mattress sizes will be found in the height of the mattress. That's why it is suggested that you purchase the mattress before selecting other accessories.
Features
You do not need a box spring or bed rails because daybeds use a steel frame support called a link spring. This system allows for one of the daybed’s best features—ample space underneath the unit for storage or an optional pop-up or drawer trundle. If you choose the trundle feature, you will need two twin size mattresses. A pop-up trundle doubles the sleeping area. When not in use, the trundle stores underneath the bed, holding the extra mattress. Simply pull the trundle out and it pops up to securely hold the two mattresses together, giving you a king size sleeping area.
Type of Mattress
Ideally, a daybed mattress will measure no higher than 8 inches. Anything higher will cause clearance problems with the pop-up unit and will sit too high on the surface of the bed. Daybed mattresses are specifically engineered to provide comfort and support within these size limitations. A foam core mattress provides plush softness while an innerspring coil unit mattress provides firmer support and a more comfortable sitting surface.
